With over 26,000 students and more than 2,000 scientists, Kiel University (CAU) offers a cross-disciplinary academic environment. The disciplines offered by its eight faculties are connected by constant dynamic interfaces reflected in the university's teaching and integrative research profile. The main research areas complement the wide range of individual research in various subjects and form the basis for the Clusters of Excellence Precision Medicine in Inflammation based in the Medical Faculty and Roots based in Humanities as well as the research focuses "Ocean Science" and "Nano- and Surface Science." The Institute of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology belongs to the Medical Faculty and the University Hospital Schleswig Holstein, the second largest University Medical Centre in Germany. The institute is dedicated to pharmacological research and teaching. Ten scientists and ten doctoral students are working in the field of pharmacogenomics, mechanisms of cancer drug resistance, drug safety, and the genetics of neuropathic pain, applying state-of-the-art techniques of molecular biology and modern tools of bioinformatics.
