On September 23, 2024, the OPPM team launched the OPPM Program in Lebanon, marking a pivotal step in advancing pharmacogenomics in Lebanese healthcare and across the MENA region, despite Lebanon’s challenging political climate. Held at Al Bustan Venue, the event targeted healthcare professionals, especially pharmacists, bioscientists, and academics, to promote pharmacogenomics education and research. Beginning with networking, the event featured opening remarks from Professor Rajaa Fakhoury, with further insights from Professor Abdallah Lakkany and Professor Hania Nakkash on the relevance of pharmacogenomics in Lebanon and academic opportunities. Talks by Dr. Joe Salloum, Professor Ahmed Wahid, and Dr. Said El Shamieh addressed challenges and educational integration. The session continued with presentations by Professors Nathalie Zgheib and Drs. Alain Chebly and Jose Noel Ibrahim on pharmacogenomics applications in Lebanon. A panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Said El Shamieh, concluded the event, examining obstacles and strategies for implementing pharmacogenomics in the region.
