Prof. Ahmed Wahid

Project coordinator & Head of the Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Department- Faculty of Pharmacy Alexandria University

Dr. Wahid is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the department of Pharmaceutical Biochemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University, Egypt.

In 2018, Dr. Wahid founded the Pharmaceutical Biochemistry department at the Faculty of Pharmacy-Alexandria University. The undergraduate studies began in the department in 2019, and the bylaws for the postgraduate studies in the department were established in 2020. He also established the first molecular biology research lab in the department in 2021.

Dr. Wahid gained an experience in a wide range of biochemical, biophysical, and virological techniques during my Ph.D. studies at Manchester University in the United Kingdom, Postdoc fellowship at the Center of Infection and Immunity, Pasteur institute in France, and an academic visit to the Centre for Virus Research (CVR) in the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Three high-profile research-led labs allowed him to widen his scientific knowledge in these fields. They helped him develop the skills necessary to obtain research funding for his own independent laboratory in Egypt.

Since June 2013, Dr. Wahid has been heading a research team. The team’s primary focus is to develop fundamental research in the field of Drug/Biomarker discovery that may address underlying mechanisms leading to susceptibility to some diseases and/or prediction of therapeutic response, with specific themes in the field of Molecular Virology of essential clinical viruses. That could be useful to help identify host/viral factors associated with treatment and/or diagnosis.

Dr. Wahid is an experienced teacher at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a great experience in the fields of curriculum development and course design, which were enhanced via participation in the capacity building of higher education Erasmus plus programs (2013-2022).
